Sophie Ives (b. 2002) is a London-based artist engaged in an ongoing negotiation with paint, time, and her own attention span. Her practice unfolds as a process of excavation and intuition. Welcoming serendipity, she likes to sacrifice control, allowing materials to misbehave. She paints with oil, bleach, tree bark, and whatever else seems like a bad idea until it works, building tactile layers of time-worn surfaces that reveal the poetic fragility of lived experience and the unpredictable nature of making. Each painting holds a tension between precision and entropy, revealing something of the way memory clings and slips.
